Bayelsa State continued their impressive performance in swimming on Day 7 of the 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF), tagged Gateway Games 2024, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Team Bayelsa clinched four gold, one silver, and one bronze medal on the third day of the swimming event. Dorcas Oka was a standout performer, winning gold in the women’s 200m backstroke, with her Edo and Rivers opponents finishing in second and third positions, respectively.

In the men’s 200m backstroke, Bayelsa’s Beke Williams secured a bronze medal, with Rivers claiming gold and Delta State finishing second in the keenly contested event.
Dorcas Oka continued her golden run by claiming another gold in the 50m women’s freestyle event, while Ogun and Delta State finished second and third, taking home silver and bronze medals.
Bayelsa’s Collins Ebingha clinched silver in the 50m freestyle men’s event.
In the 4x100m mixed freestyle relay, Doutimi Gagbe, Yellow Yeyeh, Agnes John, and Azazi Ayibamieye outperformed Edo and Delta States to win the gold medal. Furthermore, in the 4x100m men’s freestyle relay, Team Bayelsa clinched gold at the expense of Ogun and Delta State.
Also, their men’s and women’s 4x100m relay teams qualified for the finals. Hope Aruya added to the state’s gold tally by winning the women’s high jump, further bringing smiles to the faces of Bayelsans.
In para-athletics, Goodness Ojo took gold in the men’s 100m T37/38 event, while Bayelsa also secured silver in the men’s singles tennis event. The men’s volleyball team equally progressed to their event’s final.
In Judo, Selere Mathias won gold in the women’s 48kg class, while the duo of Victory Tontonye and Titilayo Akinleye qualified for the final of Squash in the female doubles event at the fiesta.
