Ayomide Odukoya is the founder of Posi Labs, an AI sales agency with dedicated teams in Nigeria and Kenya, comprising sales professionals and business development experts.
Odukoya’s journey into the world of innovation and tech began during his time as a law student. “Law was my childhood dream. I always wanted to become a lawyer,” he says.
“But even while I was studying law, I found myself drawn to photography,” he adds.
What started as a creative outlet quickly turned into a thriving pursuit. “I got quite successful with photography at a very young age,” he recalls.
“By the time I was about to graduate from the University, I looked at my portfolio and asked myself,” What’s next? Should I go to law school or follow this creative path?”
He chose the creative path, and that decision set off an evolution. “From photography, I moved into design, then branding, then marketing, then automation, and now AI,” he says.
“And for me, it’s all just one journey. Each step built on the one before it.”
That journey would eventually lead him to establish Posi Labs, an AI sales agency helping businesses scale across Nigeria and Kenya.
Odukoya started his business by using his personal money from side gigs and support from friends and family. “ I wouldn’t say, ‘Oh, I started with exactly X amount.” It was more of a natural progression.”
“If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: just start. There’s always a more affordable way to do anything. Think it is out of reach. You don’t need tens of millions to launch something impactful. Most times, you just need the will to start and systems.”
Odukoya tells BusinessDay that the business plans to have the biggest community of business owners in Africa.
Also, he says the business plans to have a tour on AI across the continent. “We want to do an AI tour across Africa, showing business owners how to use scalable systems to make more money without more stress or hiring too many people.”
Odukoya said one of the challenges faced in starting his company was the misconceptions most people have about AI.
“It is something we still face, but we aim to bridge that gap through education. It has been our biggest challenge so far, and we’ve vowed to tackle it head-on.”
Odukoya strongly believes in the transformative power of artificial intelligence not just for business, but for Nigeria’s entire development landscape.
“AI can literally transform every single sphere of development in Nigeria,” he tells BusinessDay.
“From policy-making using data to helping the government make better decisions, to entrepreneurs improving their businesses and executing faster. Every single sphere stands to benefit if we all embrace this AI wave that’s taking over the world.”
Looking ahead, his vision is ambitious but clear: to create the largest community of business owners on the continent. “We want to do an AI tour across Africa, showing business owners how to use scalable systems to make more money without more stress or hiring too many people,” he shares.
To young people eager to break into the tech space, especially AI, Odukoya offers advice rooted in adaptability. “In this field, the most important thing right now is your ability to learn and unlearn past information. Things are going to start working differently, and you need to be able to move with the times,” he says. “You need to be very fluid. That’s the most important skill not some hard skill, but that mindset. The ability to adapt. That’s what will take you far.”
