Wigs are an investment, and with the right care, they can last for months or even years. Wigs have become a fashion necessity, offering convenience and even confidence to millions of people. Like natural hair, wigs require proper care to last long and look their best.
Always detangle gently
Before and after wearing your wig, use a wide-tooth comb or a wig brush to gently remove any knots, starting from the tips and working your way up. This simple habit helps prevent shedding and keeps your wig looking smooth and polished.
Wash your wig, but not too often
Just like your natural hair, your wig needs washing, but not daily. For synthetic wigs, wash every 6–8 wears; for human hair wigs, every 10–15 wears is fine. Use lukewarm water and wig-specific shampoos and conditioners. Avoid harsh products that strip the fibres.
Always allow your wig to air dry on a wig stand, never wring it out or use a hair dryer, especially on synthetic fibres.

Invest in wig-friendly products
If you are wondering why your wig does not feel as soft or silky after a few uses, the answer might be in your products. Invest in shampoos, conditioners, and detangling sprays designed specifically for wigs. Avoid products with heavy alcohol, sulfates, or oils that can damage the wig’s integrity.
Store your wig properly
When not in use, store your wig on a wig stand or mannequin head to maintain its shape. You can also use a satin bag or box if you’re travelling. Avoid tossing it on your dresser or folding it in a drawer, as it can cause tangling and deformation.
Protect from heat and sun
Synthetic wigs can easily melt or frizz under direct heat. Even human hair wigs suffer from too much heat styling. If you must use heat tools, always apply a heat protectant spray and use low temperatures. Also, try not to expose your wigs to too much direct sunlight, which can cause fading.
Avoid seeping or showering in your wig
Some nights, you just want to crash, but sleeping with your wig on can cause unnecessary tangling and shorten its lifespan. The same goes for showering. Always remove your wig before bed or bath time.
Take it to a professional
If your wig is tangled beyond help or you want to revive an old favourite, consider taking it to a professional wig stylist. Many salons now offer wig-specific services, like washing, restyling and ventilating lace closures.
