Every Monday in the past one month, I would lift my pen to tell Nigerians what I think is going on Sim Fubara’s mind. I see it as my business or the business of this column to peep into his mind and whisper to Nigerians. This is perhaps the longest nonstop running column in the Niger Delta (if not Nigeria) of over 25 years. It is as old as the NDDC, which is marking its 25 years this year with fanfare and some spending, deservedly too, unlike this column that is almost an orphan. It began in the rested Post Express, to this day.
Now, to tap into the governor’s mind, where else would the nation look to? Yet, it is very difficult. What is on show for four days now is that the governor said things to show that he seeks peace by meeting those his supporters considered his enemies; those he said demanded for a kidney and a liver. He once said the IGR of the state was being reported as below N13bn, but when he put his eyes down, he began to see up to N28bn per month. By this, many understood that about N15bn was being stolen from the IGR every month and that Fubara’s eagle eyes had saved the state such huge sums. Little wonder he borrowed no shishi in project execution, yet, he was ahead of every state in projects. Many would hardly see where the supporters went wrong in defending him and baying for blood.

To interpret his mind, recall that he was said to have been persuaded to become governor; that when the pressure became too much for him in the early days of the dispute between him and his godfather, he had offered to resign but was persuaded otherwise; and that in the fight, he refused many proposals for media war against his godfather, telling them God would defend him. It was learnt that many of the backers resolved to source funds to fight for him because the battle was no longer for one Sim.
One key hint was from a source that said he said his life was far better before he became governor. He cherished the peace of his past. See? The rich also cry!
