Political figureheads and business leaders convened on Thursday to pay their final respects to Pa Ayodele Oluwole Senbanjo, who passed away on April 5 at 92. The funeral service, held at the Cathedral Church of Christ in Marina, Lagos, drew prominent attendees, including Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and former Delta State Governor James Ibori.
OmoOba Segun Senbanjo, Regional Director of Seymour Energy Consulting and a prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, led the solemn yet celebratory proceedings for his late father. Following the church service, guests gathered at the upscale Harbour Point venue on Victoria Island for a lavish reception.
“Pa Senbanjo was the best father anyone could ask for,” said the emotional son during an interview. “He ensured we had the best education and instilled in us life’s essential values. He left no stone unturned in preparing us for life.”

The distinguished guest list included former Ekiti State Governor Niyi Adebayo, Oodua Group Chairman Otunba Bimbo Ashiru, and former Wemabod chairman Otunba Seyi Oduntan. Attendees enjoyed fine cuisine while the popular Vintage Band provided musical entertainment.

Born on July 24, 1932, Pa Senbanjo came from royal lineage as a prince of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Ile-Nla Compound in Ijebu-Ode. His professional career spanned decades at prestigious institutions including the Central Bank of Nigeria, Federal Mortgage Bank, and ITT Telecommunications.
Beyond his professional achievements, Pa Senbanjo maintained deep ties to the Cathedral Church of Christ, where he had served since youth, first as an altar server and later as a longstanding member of the Cathedral Guild of Stewards. Just weeks before his passing, in March 2025, he received a 50-year Long Service Award from the Guild’s Executive Committee.
The patriarch is survived by his wife, Mrs. Toyin Senbanjo, eight children, multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren. OmoOba Segun Senbanjo, visibly moved by the outpouring of support, personally thanked each guest for joining the family in celebrating his father’s remarkable life and legacy.
