Badagry West LCDA is witnessing a renewed sense of hope and vibrancy as Damilola Sonayon James emerges as a transformative figure, blending deep grassroots connections with global expertise to chart a new path for her community.
Over the years, James has built a formidable career as a Sustainability Risk and Strategy expert, holding leadership roles in notable organisations such as Conrad Clark Nigeria Limited and BOLT Nigeria.
Her expertise cuts across human resources management, transport and logistics, and project consultancy, all underpinned by a strong emphasis on governance, capacity building, youth empowerment, and social responsibility.
Currently serving as the Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture and Social Services in Badagry West LCDA, James has already left a profound mark. Her grassroots initiatives, such as the widely lauded “Light Up Project”, which saw the donation of solar-powered lights to underserved communities, have not only improved security but also enhanced the economic activities of residents after dark.
Beyond infrastructure, James has worked in close partnership with government ministries, non-profit organisations, and private sector players to deliver training programmes, capacity-building initiatives, and empowerment projects, especially targeting women and young people.
Her collaborations with entities like the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Mind-Gap Incubation Hub, and the National Youth Council of Nigeria have consistently demonstrated her unwavering dedication to societal growth.
As she throws her hat into the ring for the chairmanship position of Badagry West LCDA, James is running on a platform of “New Vision, New Plan, New Direction.” Her campaign promises are anchored on sustainable development principles, youth and women empowerment, and inclusive governance values she has embodied throughout her career.
Her growing popularity is palpable across the constituency and beyond, with social media campaigns rallying support behind her candidacy. To many, Damilola Sonayon James represents not just a fresh voice, but a necessary shift towards a future where leadership is rooted in compassion, competence, and community.
Born into the revered royal family of Kweme Kingdom, granddaughter of Late Oba Afolabi Ogungbe James and daughter of former Federal House of Representative member Late Honourable Bolarinwa Seyon James, James’ educational journey reflects her commitment to excellence and service. From the Administrative Staff College in Badagry and Lagos State Model College Kankon, she advanced her studies abroad, earning a B.Sc in Business Management and Human Resources Management from the University of Hull, United Kingdom, followed by an MSc in Social Work with a focus on Community Development from Ladoke Akintola University.
In a time when credible leadership is needed more than ever, all eyes are now on Badagry West and the woman many believe is poised to lead it into a new era of prosperity.
