The Federal Government has declared Thursday, May 1, 2025, a public holiday to mark this year’s Workers’ Day celebration.
This was announced by Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, in a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by Magdalene Ajani, ministry’s Permanent Secretary.
Speaking on the significance of the day, D Tunji-Ojo applauded Nigerian workers for their dedication, resilience, and sacrifice, describing them as the backbone of the nation’s progress and international reputation.
“There is dignity in labour,” the Minister said, emphasizing that the commitment shown by workers plays a vital role in building the nation.

He called on workers to embrace innovation and productivity in their various fields to further boost industrialization and economic growth.
According to him, raising the standard of work will translate into improved governance and better outcomes for all Nigerians.
Tunji-Ojo also reiterated the Tinubu administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens and foreigners in the country, noting that peace remains a key driver of national development.

While wishing workers a joyful celebration, the Minister encouraged them to remain hopeful and supportive of the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
