President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Remo Stars Football Club on winning the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title, their first ever, just four years after gaining promotion to the top division.
Daniel Ogunmodede’s side sealed the historic triumph with a 1–0 victory over Niger Tornadoes at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne. The win puts the Ikenne-based club top of the NPFL standings with 68 points from 35 matches, maintaining a commanding 10-point lead over second-placed Rivers United.
In a statement by Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, he praised Remo Stars’ success as a powerful testament to the hard work, discipline, and resilience of the players, coaching staff, and management.
“Four years after their promotion to the elite division, Remo Stars’ historic victory highlights the unyielding spirit and perseverance that define true champions,” Tinubu said.
“Their courage, despite previous near-misses, should serve as an inspiration to other Nigerian clubs to chase their dreams with unwavering optimism.”
President Tinubu also lauded the vision and commitment of the club’s owner and chairman, Kunle Soname, especially his investment in grassroots football development. He highlighted that the construction of a state-of-the-art stadium in Ikenne has significantly boosted sports growth in Nigeria.
“Mr. Soname’s contributions have provided a vital foundation for nurturing talent and promoting excellence in Nigerian football,” the statement added.
With the NPFL title now secured, Remo Stars will represent Nigeria in the next CAF Champions League. President Tinubu urged the team to carry forward their spirit of determination and focus as they seek to make a mark on the continental stage.
