…with about 501 blind candidates sitting the examination
As the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) began, today, Thursday, April 24, over two million registered applicants across the federation began their quest for admission into Nigeria’s higher institutions.
The examination which began today against Friday, April 25, former date, is billed to end on Monday, May 5, 2025.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) commenced the registration window for 2025 UTME on February 3 and closed on March 8, giving candidates a full month to complete the process.
The mock UTME ended on Thursday, April 10, 2025, and over 200,000 candidates were reported to have participated with about 180 students now facing sanctions for examination malpractice.

Ishaq Oloyede, registrar/CEO at JAMB, speaking during the monitoring of the mock UTME highlighted the importance of preparation and academic integrity.
“We need to let the students know that the best way to pass the UTME is to study. We are aware of rogue websites asking candidates to pay for access to leaked questions. It cannot work,” he said.
Oloyede emphasised that JAMB had deliberately set up a fake rogue website to catch would-be cheats.
“As of this morning, about 180 students have paid into that account, hoping to get access to questions. To even attempt to cheat is already an infraction, and we are going to deal firmly with them. Their results, both UTME and Direct Entry, will be cancelled,” he said.
He urged all candidates to avoid fraudulent websites and individuals promising shortcuts to success, reaffirming JAMB’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the examination process.
Meanwhile, not less than 501 blind candidates are set to take the 2025 UTME in 11 computer based test centres across the country.

Peter Okebulola, chairman of the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG), revealed this while addressing journalists on Wednesday, April 23, in preparation for the examination for blind candidates and others with special needs candidates.
Okebulola disclosed that JAMB has scheduled the examination to hold from April 28 and 29, 2025 in 11 centres with 20 subjects.
About 348 blind candidates sat for the 2022 UTME; 313 in 2023 and 529 in 2024.
“The candidates take the same test papers as the regular candidates and standards are not lowered in any form,” he added.
