Vice President Kashim Shettima, on Thursday, presided over the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, attended by Governors, including Ibok-Eke Ibas, Sole Administrator of Rivers State.
Recall that President Bola Tinubu had on the 19th of March, this year, sworn in Ibas as the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, following the declaration of a State of Emergency in the state.
The National Economic Council comprises the Vice President and State Governors and meets at intervals to deliberate on issues and advise the President on the way forward.
The last meeting was held on the 20th of February, during which the Nutrition 774 Initiative was launched to combat malnutrition across the country.
One of the issues that might take center stage at the meeting is the prevailing insecurity in some parts of the country, especially Plateau, Benue, Zamfara and Kwara States.
The issue of State Police has continued to linger as some states are yet to submit their positions on the issue.
Those in attendance include the Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, of Kwara State and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF, Sheriff Oborevwori, of Delta State, Hyacinth Alia of Benue State,
Others are Governor Basset Otu of Cross River, the Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani and Alex Oti of Abia State , among others.
