Plateau United striker Vincent Temitope was attacked and stabbed in his neck by a knife-wielding fan on Sunday following their 3-2 defeat to Nasarawa United on matchday 33 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) in Lafia.
The shocking incident occurred shortly after the final whistle, with a video later surfaced showing the player receiving treatment for a cut around his neck.

Temitope, who missed a penalty and scored a goal in the encounter, was reportedly approached by fans who pretended to want a photo with him.
According to Yaksat Maklek, Plateau United’s Director of Media Operations, one of the fans pulled out a knife and struck the striker on the neck.
“After the game, a couple of fans went close to him pretending they wanted to take some snapshots, and one of them struck him in the neck,” Maklek told TheCable.
“They say he actually held a knife. You would imagine how worse it would have been if the player did not escape that particular attack.”
Temitope was immediately rushed to the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Lafia, where he received treatment and was later confirmed to be in a stable condition.
Maklek added that the club has compiled all relevant evidence and eyewitness accounts of the attack and will submit them to the NPFL authorities for further investigation and appropriate sanctions.
Temitope, who joined Plateau United last year, was also named in the Super Eagles B training squad ahead of the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) later this year.
