Adekimi Ojo, the newly appointed commissioner of Police in Kwara State, has pledged to reinforce the security architecture of the state to ensure that residents can live and work in an atmosphere of peace and safety, free from fear and hindrances.
He gave the assertion while addressing journalists in Ilorin, outlining his plans to reposition the command and enhance policing efforts across the state.
The Commissioner, who emphasized his readiness to collaborate with all stakeholders to achieve lasting security, urged residents to support the command by providing credible and timely information that would guide effective operations.
“Kwara State holds a special place in my heart and I am committed to ensuring that it remains a peaceful, secure, and prosperous state. Kwara is known for its unity, cultural diversity, and strategic location as the gateway between Northern and Southern Nigeria,” he promised.
He noted that while the state is poised for continued growth, such progress can only be sustained in a secure environment. “As your new Commissioner of Police, I am dedicated to strengthening the security infrastructure of Kwara State so that all residents can live and work without fear,” he assured.
Ojo affirmed that under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the command would continue to uphold the principles of community policing- an approach he described as vital to maintaining peace and order saying that, “our strategy will involve working closely with vigilante groups, traditional institutions, civil society organizations, and other well-meaning stakeholders to ensure that Kwara remains free of crime.”
The Commissioner expressed deep gratitude to the Almighty God for entrusting him with the position and thanked IGP Egbetokun and the Police Service Commission for the opportunity to serve.
“I am grateful for the confidence reposed in me. I pray for wisdom, guidance, and strength to fulfill my responsibilities and make you proud,” he said.
Reflecting on his experience, Ojo revealed that he previously served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) in the Kwara State Command, where he worked under the leadership of three distinguished Commissioners of Police.
“Their mentorship and guidance have greatly shaped my career. It is with these experiences in mind that I now take on the responsibility of building on the solid foundation already laid in the command,” he added.
Reiterating his resolve to combat crime and criminality, Ojo warned that there would be no safe haven for criminals under his watch.
He stressed that discipline and professionalism would be the defining values of the Kwara State Police Command.
“Any officer found guilty of misconduct will face the full weight of the law. I have zero tolerance for indiscipline, extortion, and human rights violations. I will work tirelessly to earn the trust of the good people of Kwara State. I call on all stakeholders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society groups, the press, and other security agencies to partner with us in this mission.
“When we succeed, let us celebrate together; when we face challenges, let us work together to find solutions. Together, we can build a safer Kwara, where every citizen can sleep with both eyes closed, knowing they are protected by the police and other security agencies,” he stated.
