The South East Senate Caucus has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Pascal Dozie, renowned banker, economist, and former Chairman of Diamond Bank PLC.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, Enyinnaya Abaribe, Chairman of the Caucus, described Dozie’s death as a monumental loss to Nigeria’s financial and economic landscape.
The statement read, “We are deeply shocked and saddened by the news of the passing of Dr. Pascal Dozie.
“His demise has robbed Nigeria of a banking guru, an astute entrepreneur, and an acknowledged economist of the highest repute.”
Abaribe described Dozie as a visionary leader whose impact extended beyond Nigeria’s borders.

“Dr. Dozie was not only the founder of one of Nigeria’s most respected financial institutions, Diamond Bank, but also served as the Chairman of MTN Nigeria—one of the largest telecommunications companies in Africa.
“His contributions placed him at the commanding heights of Nigeria’s macroeconomic evolution, as well as Africa’s broader economic development,” he said.
He added, “Dr. Pascal Dozie was a pathfinder. His foresight and leadership helped shape modern banking in Nigeria. His death will certainly leave a huge vacuum in the financial sector and in the ongoing conversation about development and transparency in our country.”
The South East Senate Caucus described him as a towering figure in Nigeria’s economic history, lauding his legacy of integrity, innovation, and excellence.
“He was a great son of Igboland, an illustrious Nigerian, and a beacon of transparent financial management. His footprints in the sands of time, particularly in Nigeria’s private sector-led development, will never be forgotten.”
The Caucus extended heartfelt condolences to the Dozie family, the banking community, the people and government of Imo State, and Nigerians at large.
“We mourn with the nation and stand in solidarity with his family at this time of great loss. May his soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.

Similarly, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, expressed sadness over the demise of Paschal Dozie, a renowned entrepreneur, investor and elder statesman, whose death occurred just a day before his 86th birthday.
Governor Otti, described Dozie, as an accomplished entrepreneur, investor, as well as a statesman, who recorded giant strides and made his mark in different fields of human endeavour, describing his death as a big loss to the nation.
According to the Governor “Pascal Dozie was a renowned entrepreneur, investor and a statesman, who recorded visible giant strides and made his mark in different fields of human endeavour.”
Governor Otti, in a statement, signed by Ferdinand Ekeoma, his special adviser on Media/Publicity, stated that Dozie, impacted humanity positively and wrote his name in gold in many areas, hence it’s in order to record that he led a fulfilled life. He noted that his death, though at old age, had created a huge vacuum that would be difficult to fill.
