The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has debunked rumours that he recently collapsed due to ill health.
Speaking on Thursday while inspecting ongoing projects in the FCT, including the International Conference Centre (ICC), Wike dismissed the reports as politically motivated fabrications aimed at scoring cheap points.
Last week, social media was awash with claims that the minister had collapsed in Abuja and was flown abroad for medical treatment. In response, Wike said, “I don’t want to give credence to people who are only interested in carrying rumours. First of all, I am a human being, it is not a ghost that will collapse.”
He added that the rumour was a deliberate attempt to divert attention from allegations made by George Nwaeke, the former head of service in Rivers State, against suspended Rivers governor Siminalayi.
“There was no time I collapsed, there was no time anybody took me overseas. But you see me every day. The day Mr. President broke iftar on his birthday, I was there,” Wike said.
He maintained that the false information was intended to shift focus from serious issues, stressing that he remains focused on his duties despite attempts to distract him.
“You have seen that I am even healthier than most of them who carried that rumour, and I will write their condolence letters,” Wike added.
