The global workforce landscape is shifting, with many industries in Europe and America facing critical labour shortages. Meanwhile, Africa boasts a vast pool of skilled professionals eager to contribute their expertise to international markets. Bridging this gap is BlakGlobal, the global recruitment arm of Blakskill, which is revolutionising talent mobility through its SMART immigration approach.
Babajide Anjorin, head of partnership and communication at Blakskill, in this interview with Josephine Okojie-Okeiyi, spoke about his organisation’s global recruitment arm and how it is pioneering a new approach to skilled migration.
BlakGlobal is pioneering a unique approach to skilled migration. Can you tell us more about your vision and how it aligns with global workforce demands?
At Blakskill, we believe that talent is universal, but opportunities are not. Africa is home to an incredible pool of highly skilled professionals, yet many struggle to access global career opportunities due to systemic barriers.
Our goal with BlakGlobal is to bridge this gap through the SMART immigration approach—Streamlined, Meaningful, Accessible, Responsible, and Tailored pathways for skilled professionals seeking opportunities in Europe and beyond.
One of the unique aspects of our initiative is that we cater to a broad spectrum of professionals. We are not just moving traditional white-collar professionals in sectors like IT, healthcare, and finance.
We also work with blue-collar workers such as technicians, construction specialists, and skilled tradespeople, as well as blue ocean professionals who bring disruptive innovations to industries.
This holistic approach ensures that African talent is recognized and integrated across all fields of global employment. We are not just focused on relocating talent but on ensuring that the process is beneficial for both the professionals and the host economies.
By aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth) and SDG 10 (reducing inequalities), we are fostering innovation, strengthening economies, and transforming lives on both sides of the migration equation.
Could you break down how these impacts both African and European/American economies?
First, from the African perspective, many countries face high unemployment rates, even among highly educated professionals. By connecting these individuals with meaningful global employment, we help reduce unemployment, increase remittances, and contribute to economic stability. Remittances play a crucial role in sustaining African economies, often providing capital for education, healthcare, and entrepreneurship.
On the other hand, European and American markets are grappling with significant labour shortages in key industries such as healthcare, technology, engineering, and skilled trades. The demand for workers far exceeds the supply in many sectors, which slows economic growth and innovation.
By providing a reliable pipeline of vetted, highly skilled African professionals—including both knowledge-based and technical workforce—we are helping to fill these gaps, boost productivity, and sustain economic growth in host countries.
Some critics argue that skilled migration can lead to brain drain. How does BlakGlobal address this concern?
Our approach is designed to create a balance. We are not indiscriminately moving talent out of Africa; rather, we are strategically placing professionals in roles where their expertise is in demand while also fostering partnerships that encourage knowledge transfer and investment back into the continent.
We also support initiatives that encourage African professionals to reinvest in their home countries through mentorship, entrepreneurship, and business collaborations. Many of our candidates eventually return home with enhanced skills and global exposure, which they use to drive local innovation and development.
Can you elaborate on the verification process for African professionals seeking global roles through your organisation?
Our verification process is rigorous because we aim to connect only the best talent with top global employers. We leverage AI-driven screening tools alongside human expertise to assess candidates’ skills, experience, and credentials.
Additionally, we collaborate with local institutions, training bodies, and certification agencies to ensure that professionals meet the highest international standards.
Beyond technical skills, we assess cultural adaptability, soft skills, and career aspirations to ensure seamless integration into their new work environments.
Employers trust us because they know that every candidate we present has been thoroughly vetted and is ready to contribute from day one. Our proprietary verification service, BlakVERIFY, provides full background checks, ensuring that all candidates—whether in white-collar, blue-collar, or blue-ocean professions—meet the legal and professional requirements of their new roles.
You mentioned AI-driven screening tools. How does AI play a role in this initiative?
Technology is at the core of what we do and our AI-powered recruitment platform not only matches talent with job openings but also analyzes skill gaps and recommends upskilling opportunities. This ensures that candidates remain competitive in the global job market.
Moreover, our digital onboarding system simplifies the relocation process, providing professionals with the necessary information, resources, and support to integrate smoothly into their new work environments. Through our tech-driven approach, we make the entire migration process more efficient, transparent, and stress-free.
Collaboration seems to be a key theme in your approach. How important is it for global employers to be part of this initiative?
Collaboration is essential. For this initiative to succeed, we need international recruiters, hiring managers, and global companies to actively engage with us. By partnering with BlakGlobal, they can access a diverse and highly skilled talent pool, ensuring that they remain competitive in their respective industries.
Additionally, we encourage companies to participate in training programs that prepare them for a globally diverse workforce. Understanding cultural nuances and fostering inclusive work environments is crucial for integrating international professionals effectively. We believe that workforce transformation is not just about hiring but about creating sustainable ecosystems where talent thrives.
What are some of your organisation’s plans?
Our long-term goal is to establish BlakGlobal as the leading conduit for African talent to access global opportunities. We aim to facilitate thousands of successful placements annually while advocating for fair labor policies that protect migrant workers.
Additionally, we plan to expand partnerships with governments, international organisations, financial institutions and educational institutions to create sustainable talent mobility frameworks. The ultimate vision is a world where talent flows freely across borders, not just benefiting individuals but also strengthening global economies through diverse and inclusive workforces.
