Clara Nnabuife, member representing Orumba North/Orumba South state constituency in the house of representatives, has defected from the Young Progressives Party (YPP) to the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).
Benjamin Kalu, deputy speaker of the House, read Nnabuife’s defection letter on the floor of the House during plenary on Thursday.
The legislator attributed her defection to her “exclusion from the activities” of the party. She added that she joined APGA after “extensive consultation” with her constituency.

Kalu subsequently joked that he would have invited Nnabuife to shake hands with him if she had switched to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The house has seen a wave of defection in recent weeks. Last week, two lawmakers including Hussein Jallo, federal lawmaker representing the Igabi federal constituency, Kaduna in the House of Representatives and Admau Tanko lawmaker representing Gurara/Suleja/Tafa have both defected from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Both legislators cited ongoing “party crisis and internal divisions” within the PDP as their reason for leaving, stating that the instability has hindered their ability to effectively perform their constitutional duties to their constituents.
