Troops of the Nigerian military have recovered 900 rustled animals following a heated exchange of gunfire with notorious bandit kingpins in Magamin Didi, Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Zagazola Makam, a counterterrorism expert in the Lake Chad reported that that the operation, carried out on Friday, resulted in the retrieval of 500 sheep and 400 cattle.
The stolen livestock had allegedly been taken by bandit leaders identified as Smally, Bashari Baba, and Jankwado.
According to him, troops engaged the bandits in a fierce gunfight before successfully securing the animals.
While there were no immediate reports of casualties or arrests, he noted that the soldiers demonstrated exceptional bravery despite stiff resistance.
Makama also said that the recovered livestock has been handed over to the authorities for return to their rightful owners.
Meanwhile, military operations in the region continue as security forces intensify efforts to combat banditry and restore peace.
