A fire outbreak at the Munna Albadawi Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Jere Local Government Area of Borno State has left a tragic toll, destroying ten makeshift shelters and claiming the life of Abubakar Gargar, a 7-year-old boy.
The incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. on March 20, 2025, according to Babangida Mahmud, the camp chairman.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-terrorism expert, the inferno, which swept through the camp, consumed foodstuffs, clothing, and other personal belongings, with the full extent of the losses yet to be determined.

He noted that the Borno State Fire Service, assisted by security agencies, eventually contained the blaze, but not before severe damage had been inflicted.
“Tragically, young Abubakar Gargar did not survive the fire. His remains were handed over to his family and buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
“Officials from the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and other humanitarian organisations have been deployed to assess the destruction and provide necessary assistance to the affected victims”, he reported.
