… to visit Apapa, Mile 2 in search of solution
In what aims at reducing the level of gridlock being experienced on the roads in Lagos, the state gover- nor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has directed the relocation of bus stops located near markets and other congested areas within the state metropolis.
Ambode, who took time out to have first-hand experi- ence in congested areas of the state, said the traffic situationhad become a burden requir- ing urgent measures to tackle, and this informed his tour of the gridlock prune areas.
Areas visited by Am- bode included 3rd Main- land Bridge, Oworonshoki, Alimosho, Ketu and Abule- Egba. Other areas slated to be visited are Apapa and Mile 2.
The Apapa gridlock, caused majorly by fuel tank- ers and container bearing trucks, unfortunately, has continued to knock the state and national economies, such that millions of naira are daily lost by businesses some of which have shut down and emptied work- ers into the already bloated labour market.
Explaining why he un- dertook the tour, the gover- nor said: “It’s not enough to stay in the office and believe that we can create solutions to the traffic challenge that we have in the state. So, we decided that we are going to go round ourselves and see how we can improve on the traffic situation in Lagos.
“We have seen that we have been to 3rd Mainland Bridge, Oworonshoki, Ketu, Abule-Egba, Alimosho, and then we have gone to Mile 12. That’s not the end of the story. We’re still going to Apapa, Mile 2. Truth is that we must start to have solu- tions to our traffic challenges in the state, and that’s what we are doing.”
