Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa has applauded the intervention of military troops during the flood disaster in Borno last week, saying Nigeria appreciates their extraordinary role to save lives of those who were trapped.
Gen Musa while addressing troops of the Joint Task Force Northeast (JTF) Operation Hadin Kai on Thursday.
He said the extra efforts they played outside their main duty was topnotch, adding that troops’ intervention was professional and swift.
In his words, “We all appreciate the extra-job you’ve done recently during the flood. The flood came suddenly but you responded promptly and professionally. The country is happy about your conduct, your attitude and your responses,” he told troops at Maimalari Cantonment, headquarters of the counter-terrorism joint operation.
He however reminded troops not to forget their main role; to end insurgency and terrorism in the Northeast.
“Always remember that our main duty is to fight terrorists, that we will not relent. You should remain focus until we cut off the head of the snake,” he said.
He urged them not to forget their families even as he assured that military authorities working to enhance the salaries and allowances of personnel based on current economic reality.
The CDS paid a sympathy visit to the state governor, Babagana Zulum and Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Garbai El-Kanemi. He urged the governor not to be discouraged by the devastation and set-back caused by the flood disaster.
Gov Zulum also commended the efforts of the military in rescuing those trapped in their houses by flood.
“We can’t thank you enough, we are eternally grateful for the role you played last week during a devastating flood in Maiduguri and Jere. May God bless Nigeria Armed Forces.”
