President Goodluck Jonathan has sacked the inspector-general of police, Suleiman Abba, with immediate effect.
This was disclosed in a statement by the presidential spokesman, Rueben Abati.
The statement, however, did not give reason for his sack.
The deputy inspector-general of police, Solomon Arase, has been appointed as the acting inspector-general of police.
Arase is also to take over the office of the acting inspector-general of police, with immediate effect.
Until his appointment as Abba’s replacement, Arase was the head of the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department.
Arase holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Law, as well as Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Political Science and Strategic Studies. He is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Defence College.
