President Goodluck Jonathan says the elections will consolidate democracy in the country moments after casting his vote in the House of Assembly election at Otuoke in Bayelsa State.
Jonathan also explained the absence of his wife, who was conspicuously absent, saying she had taken a different flight but that she was being expected.
Unlike the presidential election on March 28 which was marred by the malfunctioning of the electronic card reader, the president was accredited in less than one minute.
Reports from all the constituencies where the elections held on Saturday showed there was marked improvement in the performance of the electronic card readers.
Speaking to newsmen earlier, he attributed the development to improvements in the performance of the card readers by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He also expressed hope of a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) victory in the governorship and Houses of Assembly elections nationwide.
Jonathan arrived Otuoke some minutes past 11a.m and went straight to be accredited.
The governorship election is expected to hold later in the year sometime in November so Bayelsans are only voting in the House of Assembly election.
INEC had a day earlier announced the postponement of the House of Assembly election in eight of the 24 constituencies citing insufficient election materials.
Governor Henry Seriake Dickson did not vote in the election as his constituency, Sagbama 1, is one of those affected by the postponement announced by INEC.
Meanwhile, there were reports of violence at Oruma in Ogbia Local Government Area of the state over alleged diversion of sensitive election materials.
A community source disclosed that some All Progressive Congress (APC) supporters had demanded to see the result sheet before voting and but election officers refused their request.
They, therefore, disrupted the election and in the process, a young man was injured with blood streaming down his right ear, the community source disclosed.
Police spokesman, Asinim Butswat, could not confirm the incident but he disclosed that there was some disturbances at Agudama-Ekpetiama in Yenagoa Local Government Area.
However, Butswat could not give details of the disturbance.
