Senate Committee Chairman on Banking, Finance and Allied Matters, Bassey Otu weekend said he would abide by the outcome of the Senatorial elections. Out, who represents Southern Senatorial District of Cross River State in the National Assembly, is the Labour Party (LP) candidate.
He disclosed this after casting his vote at Government Primary School Adiabo Effut ward Okkwirikang Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State. “Though we have hard start because of the challenge of card-reader as we spend over two hours before the commencement of the exercise,” he said.
Otu said though INEC was trying its best, “we are hopeful of coming out victorious at the end of the exercise.” Presiding officer of the polling unit, David Onoja, said 202 people where accredited out of 417 registered in the unit. He attributed the delay to the card-reader not responding. At Ikot Okon Abasi Creek-Town, presiding officer, Aderoju Olubusayo said 158 out of 164 people were accredited.
Iso Bassey of the Coalition of Civil Society Group in Nigeria (CSGIN) expressed satisfaction with the use of card-reader and its functionality. He said the card-reader scored above average and commended INEC for the exercise.
Also, a member of the Transition Monitoring Group, Bassey Okim said despite little hitches here and there the election in the state was very peaceful and credible.
