Renault’s Nigeria is sponsoring Emeka Udem- ba’s ‘Tools of Conflicts, exhibition of artistic mediums spanning drawing, painting, photography, installation and video, where he examines is- sues of cultural diversity and memory within the context of globalisation- from March 21st to 11th April, 2015 at the Renault Showroom in Victo- ria Island, Lagos. Organised by ArtHouse- the Space, this exhibition profiles Emeka Udemba’s prolific career, including his most recent mixed media work on paper, where Udemba explores the topic of conflict by questioning the media representation of violence, suffering and trauma.
His works point to the ongoing animosities in parts of Nigeria and other countries in the world, ‘Tools of Conflicts’ examines the role of identity, gender, memory in conflict and how imagery serves to dictate how history is experienced and written. Emeka Udemba (born in Nigeria 1968) lives and works between Lagos and Freiburg, Germany, and has won many prizes and residencies in Africa and Europe. His notable awards and exhibitions include projects at Palais de Tokyo in Paris, France, a project grant with Prince Claus fund in the Netherlands and a project grant in Siftungskun- stfonds in Germany.
