Abakaliki township stadium was full to capacity last weekend as thousands of supporters of Labour Party in Ebonyi State from all the 13 local government areas of the state converged to formally adopt President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate for 2015 election.
The adoption in Abakaliki was as a result of the decision of the national leadership of the Labour Party led by Abdulkadir Abdulsalam to do so after an expanded National Executive Council meeting of the party in Ibadan. Addressing the crowd on the party’s decision to adopt Jonathan, Abdulsalam said it was because of the President’s transformation agenda that has touched all sectors of the economy; his humility and his demonstration as true democrat who believes in dialogue and his academic excellence.
He urged the people of Ebonyi State and the party supporters to vote for Jonathan to enable him complete all the good works he had started to take the nation to higher level and not to waste their votes for the APC presidential candidate.
The gubernatorial candidate of the party in the state, Edward Nkwegu, said the teeming supporters of LP left PDP not because of Jonathan but few individuals who felt they can merchandise the party in the state. Nkwegu noted that President Jonathan has particularly given Ebonyi people sense of belonging in the area of appointment and infrastructure development.
