President Goodluck Jonathan has pledged massive investment in maritime sector of the Nigerian economy with the construction and development of deep sea ports in four states of the country. They include Olokola Deep Sea Port in Ogun State; Badagry Deep Port in Lagos State; Ibaka Deep Sea Port in Akwa-Ibom State and Age Deep Sea Port in Bayelsa State.
The president disclosed that the construction of four deep sea ports in the country became imperative going by the Federal Government’s mission to decongest the existing sea ports, especially Lagos sea ports and to make Nigerian sea ports a transit of imported goods to other West-African countries as well as to generate job opportunities and create wealth.
President Jonathan made the declaration yesterday in Ijebu-Ode in Ogun State during an electioneering visit to Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona and other Obas in council following the earlier request made by Oba Yinusa Adekoya, Dagburewe of Idowa and spokesperson of the Ijebu Obas in council.
