24 young Africans celebrated joyfully upon completing a 12-week intensive photography training hosted by Gazmadu Education.
The programme aimed not only to integrate them into society but also to provide them with skills for sustainable livelihoods.
Founded in 2019 by Yagazie Eguare, Gazmadu Education asserts that its transformative Versatile Photography Training programme will refine skills, foster thriving careers, and instill in the 24 graduating students a passionate drive for positive change.
Eguare highlighted the unique features of the program, emphasising its unparalleled learning experience guided by expert mentors.
“The Versatile Photography Training programme offers an unparalleled learning experience,” Eguare stated, “guided by expert mentors who provide not only technical expertise but also in-depth critiques, dedicated mentoring sessions, and the chance to build a lasting network within the photography community.”
The journey of the 2023 cohort was marked by several key stages, including intensive hybrid training, community onboarding, project ideation and execution, bi-weekly mentorship reviews, business clinic week, and a grand finale with a photography exhibition and graduation ceremony.
Of notable recognition were several students’ outstanding achievements. Gregory Akinlotan’s project “Beyond Barriers: Capturing Strength in Disability” earned him the “Art meets Purpose Visionary Award,” showcasing exceptional talent and a commitment to impactful storytelling.
Other notable students included Mensah Nanabekoe Joseph, Wahab Saheed, Matthew Odedele, and Ikpemhosi Amakhabi.
Further recognition went to Seyi Alawuh, Siyanbola Babatunde, Bukola Ufot, and Opeyemi Afolabi, honoured for their dedication to the 90-day photo challenge, embodying perseverance and passion for the craft.
Joseph Obiah was awarded “Most Versatile Student” for his dedication to maximising learning opportunities and active engagement with mentors and peers.
The success of the programme was attributed to the guidance of experienced mentors such as Choice Okweku, Zainab Egbewunmi, Femi Asaju, and lead educator Yagazie Eguare, who provided invaluable support throughout.
Expressing gratitude to partners like Camera Joint, Sony, Gazmadu Studios, and Zen Backdrops, Gazmadu Education highlighted their support in ensuring top students received incredible gifts.
