President Goodluck Jonathan’s performance ratings dropped in December as insecurity, especially in the North East continued unabated and power supply across the country dropped to its ebb, according to findings by NOI Polls.
Nigerians, according to the polls result released on Tuesday, rated the president poorly in security (1) and power (1).
But his performance in job creation, economy, education, agriculture & food security, transportation and foreign policy & diplomacy pulled an average (3) rating.
More findings revealed that power supply to Nigerian households worsened in December 2014 compared to November as there was a substantial 8 points decrease in the proportion of Nigerians who saw an improvement in power supply, although this revealed a slight improvement in power supply, when compared in 2013.
These were some of the key findings from the Governance Snap Poll conducted in the week of December 15, 2014.
Further findings by the polls in tracking the state of power supply to Nigerian households indicate that many respondents claimed that it has either ‘remained bad’ (23 percent) or ‘has gone worse’ (19 percent) over the past 1 month. In addition, 19 percent confirmed that “there’s no difference at all” in power supply to their households over the past 1 month.
But about 30 percent of respondents surveyed reported power supply ‘has improved a little’, while 9 percent affirmed ‘it has improved very much’.
An assessment of the situation of power supply in the six geo-political zones revealed that the South West zone (78 percent) accounted for the largest proportion of Nigerians who claimed that power supply worsened over the past 1 month.
Almost 5 in 10 (48%) of adult Nigerians in the North West zone claimed they saw an improvement in their power supply to their households in the month of December 2014, according to the poll result. This percentage represented the largest proportion when compared with power supply to other geopolitical zones.
The monthly trend evaluation for 2014 reveals a significant 8 points decrease in power supply in December 2014 when compared to the previous month of November 2014.
