After a successful US premiere, ‘Folly’, a blockbuster film produced by Elizabeth Daniels, which stars popular screen goddesses, Uche Jombo, Yvonne Nelson and Joke Silva is set to take over Nigerian cinemas.
The award-winning film, which also starred Joseph Benjamin, Belinda Effah and Alex Ekubo, will hit all Nigerian cinemas nationwide from 26 December 2014 (Boxing Day).
A lot of people will ask what the word ‘Folly’ means. Folly is an English word which means an act of foolishness, a foolish or ignorant act. According to the producer: “’Folly’ is a family series which bothers on mistakes. It is a story of love gone sour and it highlights the thin lines between promises and betrayal.
“ When we make promises and don’t keep to it,” says Daniels,”it can alter life, life is beautiful and is supposed to be appreciated. Marriage is not what our parents told us it is, one minute you say I do, the next minute you say I don’t. I find it amazing that some people go into marriages and some lasts a year while others for six months and they are out of it because there is no commitment so Folly details on foolish act in marriage that we can actually overlook and say no, things like this are not supposed to happen in marriages.”
On 1 November, ‘Folly’ serenaded the heart of Big Apple, Manhattan, and the following day, it was the talk of the town as it was also premiered in DC, all in the United States.
‘Folly’ gives two platform of marriage, the one of the ‘80s and the one of today. The movie has a little comedy in it and makes you smile at the end of the day. Prior to the happenings in the industry where Nollywood actress don’t get married on time, Elizabeth said, after watching Folly it would change the mindset of Actresses in the industry.
The movie has a lot of A- List acts like Joke Silver, Uche Jombo “ we all know that Joke Silva does not appear in just any movies. Her movies are quality, her stories have to be strong. For her to be in that movie, you have to know that ‘Folly’ is not just a script and it was well interpreted by acts who knows what they are doing. Joke Silva is married and up till now still has a great home which is something I admire about her and the more reason why I choose her to take part in the movie,” adds Daniels.
Elizabeth Daniels hails from Cross river State and studied social work from the University of Calabar, life has been very fair to the young Actress with understanding parents and beautiful siblings who always encourage her in her career. She is not in a hurry to get married “ I am single and not in a hurry to get married. I want that partner that when I say I do, we both have the understanding of what it is and be
able to raise our kids in the love and fear of God.” Asides folly, Elizabeth also produced ‘behind the melody’ which was her first production while folly is her second major production.
Uche Jombo, Yvonne Nelson and Alex Ekubo were among the Nigerian movie stars who made it to the States for the double premieres. Folly got a huge applause and rating from the audience, White movie buffs in particular.
The US premiere was held on a Yacht. It was cruising in the beautiful City of Manhattan while fans eat, drink and watch the movie, Folly.
Directed by Alex Mouth, Folly tells the melancholic story of love and sweet life gone sour. It highlights the thin line between promises and betrayal, how a harmless, thoughtless action can alter lives forever.
