Nyesom Wike, Okezie Ikpeazu, Udom Gabriel Emmanuel and Teslim Kolawole Folarin have emerged winners in Rivers, Abia, Akwa Ibom and Oyo States, respectively, in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial primaries held across the country yesterday.
Ifeanyi Okowa won in Delta.
As at the time of going to press, counting was still going on in Lagos.
Others who defeated their rivals to clinch the party’s ticket in Ebonyi, Niger, and Ogun States, respectively, are Dave Umahi, deputy governor of Ebonyi State; Mohammed Umar Nasko, chief of staff to Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, and Gboyega Nasir Isiaka.
The exercise was however boycotted in some states, while there were instances of parallel primaries in some others. For instance, a faction of the party in Ogun State went ahead with the primary, despite a letter from the PDP national secretariat directing that no such exercise should be held till further notice.
In a related development, Rashidi Ladoja, former Oyo State governor and leader of Accord Party, was yesterday confirmed as the gubernatorial flag bearer of the party for the 2015 election.
