The Orlean Invest scholarship scheme is one of the group’s cardinal programmes in educational empowerment for youths from its host communities. The communities include: Onne, Ogu, Ogbum-nu-abali, Amadi-Ama, Rumuokwurusi, Warri Port Host Communities, Ikot-Ansa, Old Netim. The beneficiaries were drawn from both secondary and tertiary institutions in the said communities with 312 and 89 benefiting.
A statement from the corporation the scholarship offer was in a bid to win the hearts of the host communities and create better business environment. “In line with its mission to create a harmonious environment in which the host communities and the company become fundamentally independent; where understanding is mutual; with a commitment to growth and development, the group has persistently increased the number of beneficiaries through the years,” the statement added.
The company said the Orlean Invest community relations drive had adopted an integrated participatory approach which seeks to build hope and ensure a sustainable human development programmes via projects, empowerment and employment.
The recipients were said to be nominated by the communities and screened at the tertiary level to ensure that only deserving students benefit. Each scholarship covers tuition and books needed for the completion of an academic session, according to a statement from the company.

In presenting the secondary and university scholarship cheques to one of the paramount rulers of the host communities, Rexford Asaikpuka, the community relations manager of Orlean Invest West Africa (OIWA), assured the youths and clan heads of the company’s commitment to the development and welfare of its host communities.
This, he reinstated, has proved to be the way to go owing to the mutual peace both the communities and the company enjoy from this drive and approach to community relations.
Responding, J.D. Osaronu, the paramount ruler of Onne, while receiving the cheques on behalf of the Onne recipients, said: “Orlean has done a lot in developing our community. They have constructed good roads, awarded scholarships, given us skills acquisition programmes, built and in some cases renovated school buildings for us. Onne is most grateful to Orlean Invest for these infrastructural, human and economic developments.”
