Augustine Peters, a final year Business Administration student of the University of Lagos, who was recently knocked down by an unidentified vehicle while on Okada (commercial motorcycle) and who ended up with a fractured leg in the Alagbole area of Lagos, has emerged as one of the beneficiaries of Airtel Insurance free cover for the telecommunication subscribers.
Peters, who received the cheque from Cornerstone Insurance plc at the headquarters of Airtel Nigeria, alongside other two beneficiaries – Adeniji Owolabi and Ojo Aderogba, who were both hospitalised over ill-health, expressed their joy for the relief, stating that they never believed it was real to get free insurance for just being an Airtel subscriber.
Peters got a cheque of N50,000, while Owolabi and Aderegba got N25,000 each, based on their cover value as a result of their monthly recharge amounts during the period of the sickness.
Airtel Nigeria had recently gone into partnership with two insurance providers, Cornerstone Insurance plc and MicroEnsure to provide Nigerians free covers for hospitalisation as well as for life. To benefit from the cover, subscribers only need to dial *259# to join, then, notify any Airtel office or customer care when hospitalised for sickness.

The product, which is tagged Airtel Insurance, is packaged to deliver affordable insurance services and encourage insurance culture among Nigerians, and has been endorsed by the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM).
Ganiyu Musa, group managing director, Cornerstone Insurance, said during the launch said “Cornerstone was delighted to be at the forefront of providing truly innovative products and channels combinations that address the Nigerian situation.
“That we are grossly under-insured as a nation is very well documented; we are glad to be able to provide a platform for millions of financially excluded Nigerians to enjoy the benefits and peace of mind of insurance – for free. As we say at Cornerstone, “The Future” is, indeed, “Assured.”
