Fast-rising Afrobeat artiste, Othowhora Eloghene Olawunmi, popularly known as Elohsound, strongly believes that female musicians are under pressure to work harder to survive in the male-dominated music industry.
Recalling her difficult experience in her early years, the beautiful and talented International Relations and Diplomacy graduate of Protestant University of West Africa, Porto Novo, Republic of Benin said she was unable to get the support necessary to promote her music to the public.
“It wasn’t until I left Nigeria that I was about to find that support,” she recounted.
In her words: “I have noticed that sadly the industry is male dominated. What I have seen is that women have to work twice harder than their male counterparts. I am however not deterred; I am motivated to keep pushing. I will never give up. I will make it”.
Continuing, Elohsound who is also called ‘Born-leader’ noted that she has been doing music since she was a kid.
“I started doing music early. I have been doing music since I was a kid. I used attend church events since the age of six. I was part of the children choir. From there I moved to the teenage choir and then got elevated to the youth choir. I started going to the studio in 2011. It has provided me the avenue to perfect my craft”.
The Afrobeat songstress noted that her selling point is her lyrical content not her sex appeal.
“My unique selling point is my lyrical content! The soothing ‘afrovibe’ in my music makes me stand out. I also have an amazing stage presence. My performances are always exciting to watch because of the ‘fire’ I bring on stage”.
