Not less than six persons were injured as armed robbers stormed Alaafia Estate in Orogun, Ibadan, Oyo State capital with the Point of Sale (PoS) on Sunday night.
BusinessDay gathered that armed robbers, numbering about 20, gained access to the estate through a recently-dredged carnal linking Barika, Agbowo and Orogun in Ibadan, having attacked and robbed a Superintendent of Police (name withheld) two weeks earlier.
Narrating the incident, one of the victims who pleaded anonymity said “When they came, they jumped into our house and shot into the air. They started saying where are they, where is the money? They entered around 12:45 and left around 1:45am for other buildings.”
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Police Command said that they have recovered four machetes and a locally-made pistol around the scene of the robbery, adding that intelligence and security efforts are ongoing to arrest the escaped armed robbers.
In a related development, the police in Ogun State have arrested a 42-year old man, John Daniel for raping a 30-year old woman (name withheld) in Sango-Ota area of Ado-Odo/Ota local government.
According to Abimbola Oyeyemi, the police public relations officer, the suspect raped the victim under the false pretence of helping her to get an iron make-shift container which she could use as shop to sell wares.
Abimbola, however, explained that the Commissioner Police, Edward Ajogun, had directed the transfer of the suspect to the Anti-human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation and diligent prosecution.
