Having secured partnerships with Lagos and Ogun states to provide uninterrupted power for critical infrastructure such as hospitals, courts, malls, schools, government parastatals, street lighting, among others, Viathan Engineering Limited is driving the expansion of energy services to all other Southwest states to reduce production costs among investors.
Currently, Viathan Group generates and distributes 50MW of electricity from six power plants, namely, Akute Power Plant, Ilupeju Power Plant, Island Power Plant I, Island Power Plant II and PIPP LVI Genco in all Lagos Lisabi Power Plant in Abeokuta, Ogun state with a plan to expand its footprint into many other states outside Lagos and Ogun states with the dedicated provision of 200MW of scalable energy.
Speaking at an interactive parley earlier in the year between investors and industry CEOs and Ogun State Government where Governor Dapo Abiodun outlined his administration’s plan to work with stakeholders to make the state attractive and profitable, Habeeb Alebiosu, Chief Executive Officer of Viathan Group, said, “For us, we have made our intention very clear from the outset.
“To date, we have established a 7MW power plant, already operational. We have developed a gas plant here in Abeokuta with installed 144,000 standard cubic meters capacity a day. And the beauty of what we have established here is that the power plants and CNG facility are all scalable and modular.
“The intention for the Lisabi Power Plant is to go as far as 20MW. And quite frankly we say the demand is the limit. We can generate up to the extent of demand of 100MW and 200MW, name it and we have the capacity.
“And the way we see it, we are not here to replace the DisCos, we are here to complement them. We will partner with them and work together to fix the power sector. We need to build an ecosystem of different players.
“The gas players, the distribution, metering and other last-mile infrastructure, the technical know-how, to build up the entire value chain and that’s how we see the sector emerging from a place where it is currently to one that would render flawless service to the end users.”
Meanwhile, as part of efforts to begin expansion process of energy supply across the Southwest, Viathan Engineering Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Ogun state government on energy supply expansion within the state through its subsidiary- Lisabi Power Company with a view to expanding electricity distribution to major parts of the state, especially Abeokuta, the state capital.
The signing of the MoU at the Executive Council Chambers of the Governor’s office in Abeokuta, was conducted by the Secretary to the State Government, Olatokunbo Talabi with Viathan Engineering, owners and operators of the Lisabi Power Plant. Also, having in attendance were Habeeb Alebiosu, Chief Executive Officer of Viathan Engineering Limited and Lolu Adubifa, Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Energy.
Speaking on behalf of the power firm, the Chief Executive Officer, Habeeb Alebiosu, said the occasion was to consolidate on the company’s operations, in a bid to increase foothold and expand the capacity of electricity distribution to meet energy needs of the government and citizens.
“The MoU effectively speaks to consolidating on our operations here in Ogun State, naturally being the gateway in the southwest region. The overall objective is to increase our foothold, expand the capacity to meet the needs of government and its citizens.”
Speaking on behalf of Government, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Energy, Lolu Adubifa, described the event as an historic agreement between the present-administration and ViathanEngineering, saying that the MoU signed would effectively double the capacity of the Power Plant to meet the energy needs of the people in Abeokuta zone.
Adubifa added that government remained genuinely committed to making the state a preferred investment destination of choice in the country by ensuring that enablers such as energy and other critical infrastructure is provided to improve ease of doing business in the state.
