The management of the Kwara State Polytechnic in Ilorin, says it has concluded arrangements to establish Kwarapoly Microfinance Bank.
Abdul Mohammed, the Rector of the institution, disclosed this on Thursday while briefing journalists on his stewardship in the last one year in office.
According to Mohammed, in realisation of its enormous benefits to staff and the Polytechnic community, the management is committed to the proposed project.
“We have taken all necessary steps towards the take off of the project.
“We have opened an account with the parent bank for the MBF, and at present, our proposals are before the Corporate Affairs Commission ( CAC) awaiting final registration and approval” the Rector said.
Mohammed hinted that the management’s resolve to establish a factory to start the production of bottled water, which he said has reached a very advanced stage, explaining that the project is expected to be completed by the end of the year 2020.

He says: “When it is in full operation, it is expected to boost the Polytechnic revenue generation and stand a pride of the institution.”
He says that his administration has recorded tremendous landmark achievements that worth celebrating.
“I assumed into the office at a time that the Polytechnic was preparing to host major national event, Nigeria Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA) and as well about to hold 2019 Convocation ceremony in which those two events were given optimum attention that resulted to the success of both.
“In attending to the needs of the students in the lecture rooms, we bought new chairs and tables from little savings we realized from NIPOGA budget up to 255 pieces and this had help in solving issue of inadequacy of those materials,” said Mohammed.
The Rector, listed some of his achievements as renovation of staff quarters that said to be leaking due to old age and longtime neglect, renovation of some offices, laboratories and toilets.
Also, his administration restored water in the school campus and ensured the installation of Solar Panel light in some strategic locations in the school that used to be dark at night, provision of Internet connectivity and construction of horticultural garden.
While responding to question on monthly subvention to the school by the government, the Rector declared that “we are still engaging government on that but, they are yet to fulfill promise on restoration of the monthly subvention to the Polytechnic that was stopped by the immediate past administration in 2015.”
