Akwa Ibom government has announced the suspension of this year’s international students’ day celebration citing ‘the mood of the nation.’
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Uduak Eyo, an information officer in the ministry of education, on behalf of the Enoobong Mbobo, the commissioner for education.
According to the statement, the suspension is also due to the closure of tertiary institutions following the prolonged strike by university lecturers in the country.
The statement read in part, “This year’s International Students’ Day celebration in the state is hereby suspended due to the current mood of the nation and students community.

This follows the recent closure of tertiary institutions resulting from the disagreements between the Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of Universities and other welfare issues propelled by the new demands of post-COVID-19 existence.
“The commissioner for Education, Enoobong Mbobo apologises for the inconveniences which this postponement will cause, but has assured that all issues relating to education will be exhaustively discussed at the next State EXCO meeting,” the statement added.
