Challenges and principles of corporate governance in Nigeria will be the focus and direction of discussion when experts gather for this year’s edition of Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria annual conference.
The conference which will be holding virtually, is ion’. scheduled for Thursday, October 15 with the theme, ‘Corporate Governance In the Age of Digital Transformat
“This conference will be streamed live to viewers all over the globe. It will host key corporate governance experts who will address issues and challenges of corporate governance in Nigeria and suggest ways for the sustenance of principles in the wake of technology disruptions and digital transformations,” Muhammad Ahmad, president of the Society, said.
The conference, according to Ahmad, expects an array of speakers including Evans Woherem, chairman, ChamsAccess Limited, who will be coming as keynote speaker. Others are Ndidi Nwuneli, Managing Partner, Sahel Consulting; Chinenye Mba-Uzokwu, Managing Director/CEO, InfoGraphics Nigeria Limited and Nkedilim Uwaje Begho, CEO, Future Software Resources (Futuresoft) Limited.
A major highlight of the conference will be the unveiling of some publications that will include the 22nd edition of ‘Journal of Corporate Governance’ to be presented by Chris Ogbechie, and ‘Corporate Governance & Sustainability Reporting: A Review of the Top 30 Most Capitalized Companies on the NSE’ with a foreword by M.K. Ahmed, to be presented by Ibrahim Dikko.
Another publication to be unveiled is ‘Corporate Governance Regulatory Compliance in Nigeria: The Regulator, The Regulation and the Regulated’ with a foreword by Ozofu Ogiemudia, Chairperson of the Technical Advisory Committee set up by the office of the Senate President to advise on the CAMA Bill, to be presented by Fabian Ajogwu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN)
“The Society has, over the years, hosted the Annual Corporate Governance Conference and this year’s edition, like the previous ones, promises to be impactful and insightful. Participants will be contributing to charting the course necessary for building governance frameworks that are dynamic, resilient and adaptable to changes and the new reality,” Ahmad assured.
Earlier at a virtual press conference, Clare Omatseye, a director at the Society, had noted that COVID-19 Pandemic brought opportunities for doing business differently by leveraging technology for efficiency and productivity, hence the theme, ‘Corporate Governance in the Age of Digital Transformation’.
Chioma Mordi, the Society’s newly appointed CEO, agreed, adding that the recent changes in the business terrain informed the choice of the theme for this year’s conference, which is an initiative of the Society of Corporate Governance in Nigeria.
The conference, according to the society, is supported by key industry regulators and players, with the aim of delivering valuable insights on the evolving corporate governance framework and best practices. These include Polaris Bank Limited, Zenith Bank Plc, NPF Microfinance Bank Plc, KPMG, Kenna Partners, Bank of Industry, and Stanbic IBTC, among others.
