As part of measures to resolve the face-off between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the House of Representatives is meeting leadership of the Union on Wednesday.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila who announced this on Tuesday in Abuja insisted that the Chairman of the Committee on Tertiary Education as well as members of the Committee who can attend should be present
According to Gbajabiamila, “the meeting is taking place at the office of the Speaker on Wednesday, October 14th, 2020 at 1:00 Pm”.
ASSU has been on strike for several months over the insistence of the Federal Government to implement the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) in the university system.
The Union had met with leadership of the Senate during which President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan urged its members to sheathe the sword and end the ongoing strike for students to go back to class as the situation was not healthy for the country’s ivory towers.
