Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has expressed the need for more sensitization of the public to join the Rotary Club in view of the selfless service it renders to humanity.
According to the Governor, contributions made by the Club especially in the fight against polio eradication worldwide, cannot be overemphasized.
Ganduje was speaking when he received a team of Rotarians under the leadership of the visiting Governor, Rotary International District 9125, Jumoke Bamigboye who paid him a courtesy call at Government House.
“The contributions made by rotary clubs when they started the issue of fighting polio is something worth appreciating. We have heard of those that have benefitted from it. Definitely, you have done a selfless service that only God can reward you.
“We are part of those who came together and made adequate research and finally agreed that polio really exists and that the vaccine is something that has to be accepted. So despite the success recorded in winning the battle in Kano, we should still continue with routine immunization and mop-up to maintain our present status,” Ganduje stated.

Ganduje advised the members to focus on more ways to expand the level of their membership, noting that the membership drive for those that can give something that Rotarians in Kano should intensify in doing.

She said when the issue of Rotary Clubs was first introduced into Nigeria around 1961, the Club came to the Country through Kano and that the State produced the first-ever Rotary Black President.
“So, what we really need is the participation of more well to do people in this club who can really call others to give their contributions to enable us to accomplish our seven points agenda ” she disclosed.
