President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday inaugurated the Executive, Legislative, Party Consultative Committee, to check unhealthy internal squabbles between the Executive, Legislature and the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, which he said is causing his government to lose patronage
The Executive, Legislative, Party Consultative Committee, is expected to henceforth provide a strong communication link amongst the main actors in the government as well as improve coordination.
The President speaking at the inauguration of the committee at the Presidential Villa, on Monday, stated that although the APC controls the structure of government, unnecessary bitterness has caused the government and the party seats in the legislative and gubernatorial elections
“ We must admit to ourselves that our party has been too often embroiled in bitter, and on occasions, totally unnecessary squabbles, causing us seats in the legislative and gubernatorial elections.
“This never should have happened, we are here to make sure such occurrences never happen again. We must now ensure regular consultations between the party and government.
Buhari who stated that he is a firm believer in the doctrine of Separation of Powers, added that “ as one government, we must further align ourselves and be alive to our electoral promises. We need to nurture our party, which is the platform that will take us and our country forward.”
“ I am placing great faith in this consultative committee to help improve our governance and achievements to the people of Nigeria. I expect regular feedback on your activities and I am as always ready to lead and find solutions.
“ Your success will directly enhance the success of this administration and greatly improve the conditions of our government “
Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, described the tripartite arrangement, as “ a welcome development”
“it’s something that we have been looking for because the party is in control of both chambers Senate and House of Representatives in the National Assembly.
“ So, we want the president and leader of the party and two presiding officers working together alongside the party, so this is a very positive development for APC in Nigeria .
Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF, Boss Mustapha, described the inauguration as “ another milestone that we will evolve the act of governance in a collaborative manner”
“We always appear before the National Assembly to be oversighted and also to present the Appropriation Bill that will eventually becomes an Act. We can’t achieve much if there is no synergy, good and harmonious relationship. So it was on this note that this tripartite consultative forum has been set up to ensure that at any given time, we will relate with each other in the context of our assignment, respecting the principle of the separation of powers”
