The Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has directed all its members to boycott any media parley with Femi-Fani Kayode, one-time minister of aviation and notable chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party.
According to a statement signed by Amos Etuk and Dominic Akpan, chairman, and secretary of the union respectively, the decision is in line with the disposition of the national leadership of the union.
It adds that no “that no journalist should attend a media parley with Femi Fani-Kayode or any of his activity at any location in Akwa Ibom State.”
Femi-Fani Kayode arrived Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital last night, and had a brief meeting with Governor Udom Emmanuel at the Governor’s office.
He had announced through his verified twitter handle plans to undertake the inspection of projects being executed by the state government.

“Had a restful evening and prepared to have a late-night meeting with my friend and brother Governor Emmanuel Udom,” he said.
Describing his visit as first ever to Akwa Ibom, he said, “Glad to be in this wonderful town and state (this is my first time) and tomorrow I will spend some time inspecting some projects after a morning meeting with the Governor in his office.”
He was expected to address journalists after his tour of project sites and was also likely to visit some of the factories and road projects in the state.
His visit to neighbouring Cross Rivet State stirred controversy when he assaulted a journalist at a press conference after he was asked who was bankrolling his tours to many States of the federation.
Though he has since withdrawn the offending word and apologised, the dust raised by the assault on the journalist has yet to die down.
