Guinness Nigeria plc, Cadbury Nigeria plc, Berger Paints plc, Union Bank of Nigeria plc, and Eterna plc led other equities on the gainers list after Fri¬day’s trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE).
Guinness Nigeria plc gained N2.25 after its share price rose from N166.75 to N169; Cadbury Nigeria plc gained N0.40, from N85 to N85.40.
As the market community expects more companies’ scorecards, Cadbury Nigeria plc last Friday released its audited 2013 financial statement which shows revenue growth by 7 percent to N35.760bilion from N33.550billion in 2012. Cadbury’s Profit Before Tax (PBT) rose by 38 percent to N7.421billion from N5.361billion in 2012. The company’s Profit After Tax (PAT) rose by 80 percent to N6.023billion in 2013 from N3.350billion in 2012. Also in the 2013 financial year, Cadbury’s Basis Earnings per Share (BPS) rose by 79 percent to 192 from 107 in 2012.
Furthermore, the share price of Berger Paints plc rose from a low of N9.29 to N9.48, adding N0.19; Union Bank of Nigeria plc gained N0.14, from initial price of N10.05 to N10.19; while Eterna plc gained N0.10 from a low of N3.70 to N3.80.
Driven by increased supply side which further helped to crash stocks prices, the stock market recorded loss of N106billion, evidenced in the decline of the market capitalisation from a high of N12.367trillion to N12.261trillion.
Also, the Nigerian Stock Exchange-All Share Index (ASI) depreciated by 0.86% (or 332.33 points) to close at 38,171.32 points from 38,503.65 points the preceding trading day.
In 4,033 deals, equity traders last Friday exchanged 609,579,096 shares valued at N3.736billion.
On the losers table, Lafarge Cement WAPCO plc led other equities af¬ter shedding N1.50, from N112.50 to N111. Interna¬tional Breweries plc fol¬lowed on the list of top los¬ers after losing N1.30, from N27.01 to close at N25.71.
Dangote Sugar Refinery plc was another big loser after its share price dropped from N10.45 to N9.44, losing N1.01. Cement Company of Northern Nigeria plc lost N0.94, from a high of N9.70 to N8.76; while Zenith Bank plc dropped by N0.70, from N22.08 to N21.38.
