Yawn! What a lovely night’s rest. An extra snooze would have been a fantastic idea but for the fact that I woke up 20 minutes late and I also have a job to get to. I quickly said my morning prayers, hopped in the shower and in less than 10 minutes I was done dressing up. As I rushed down the stairs I heard the blaring horn of my car pool to work and I sighed in exasperation. Thankfully, mum was already by the door with a plate of buttered toast and my flask of herbal tea. Slinging my handbag on my shoulder, I pecked her on the cheek and rushed out armed with toast in one hand and tea flask in the other.
Confusion danced across my face as I scanned the street and saw nothing but a sleek black limousine parked in front of my gate and standing right beside it was a well dressed chauffeur holding the largest bouquet of flowers I ever saw. He then walks over to me and suddenly my hands are empty to receive. I look at the note inside and immediately recognise Jacob’s scrawny handwriting and it read;
“Happy Valentine Darling,
I have arranged for you to be excused from work today so just relax and get ready to be spoiled rotten. The chauffeur will drive you to your pamper session.
Love,
Jacob.”
Oh my! It’s Friday already? Thank goodness I bought that AudemarsPiguet watch the young man had his eyes on for ages.
‘Good morning Madam’ said the chauffeur jolting me back to the present and then opened the door to the luxurious car which I slid in to looking forward to a pamper filled day ahead.
The first stop was the beauty parlour. I was given a special massage at the spa which lasted for 90 minutes and left me feeling more relaxed than I had ever been. I got facials, manicure, pedicure as well as my hair and makeup done. At this point I looked at my watch and it’s already 6pm. I rushed out the door as fast as I could. The chauffeur was already holding the door ajar for me and I wondered to myself how he knew I was coming out or if he stood like that the whole time I was in the beauty parlour. He then handed me a red envelope with a note inside which said;
“Hi Darling,
I hope you enjoyed that. Right now you would be driven back home to get dressed. I hope you like what you see…
Love,
Jay.”
Excitement surged through my veins as I thought of which dress from my closet I could wear. In less than 30 minutes, we pulled up to my house. I hurried in the front door and heard the sound of rustling news papers coming from the living room which meant Dad was reading his Business Day weekend. I poked my head in and I saw mum as well beside him reading her bible. They didn’t even look up so I said good afternoon. I rushed upstairs while wracking my head on what to wear still and burst into my room. Laid out on my bed was the most gorgeous golden sequined gown I had ever seen and right beside it was a
pair of velvet navy blue stilettos with a clutch to match. I loved what I saw and thought to myself,” Jay really pulled out all the stops”. I quickly donned the dress and shoes along with the clutch. As I rushed out, I caught a glimpse of my reflection in the mirror and I paused to take in my appearance. Vanity has never been my strong suit but at that moment I said to myself, “Temi, you look like a golden goddess”.I left the room and began to walk down the stairs when I saw my parents along with my two siblings waiting for me at the foot of the stairs with big grins on their faces. I smiled as they told me how beautiful I looked. Immediately I got down the stairs, the front door opened and my heart skipped a beat as Jacob walked in looking very handsome and breath taking in a navy blue tuxedo… and he said, “Hi Temi…”
“Temi, Temi, TEMI!”
I looked hazily to see the impatient expression on my colleague’s face.
“Temi, where did your mind drift to? I have been calling your name for two minutes now. The boss wants to see our presentation in an hour; I do hope you are ready.”And she walked away.
Chivalry isn’t dead and the art of wooing is still alive and so is romance.
Everyone wants and deserves to be treated like royalty therefore you must make an effort and go the extra mile to put a priceless smile on your partner’s face this valentine.
