Observations during the Bayelsa State governorship election showed that vote buying and selling thrived in some parts of the state, but voters still cast their ballots for the candidates of their choice.
In some instances, voters are said to have received about N2,000 in some parts of Yenagoa with the recipients insisting they would vote candidates of their choice.
Grapevine had it that some political parties released as much as N10 million per polling unit to buy votes although it could not be independently confirmed.

Meanwhile, the proposed police plan to withdraw security aides from top citizens who are involved in the election could not be implemented to the letter as some security aides in mufti were seen around top politicians.
