Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for commencing election in his country home early at about 8.45am. Bello and his wife Amina cast their votes at Agasa ward 1 in Okene local government area.
The governor who arrived the polling unite around 8.30 am was received by the INEC officials as he and his wife were accredited before they finally cast their votes.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after voting, governor Bello commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for a good job by ensuring early commencement of the election. He noted that if what he witnessed in Kogi Central in terms of peaceful election obtained other areas in the state, Kogi would surely record peaceful election.
He expressed satisfaction with the performance of the card reader now, unlike during the presidential election when card reader failed in his polling unit.
He said the All Progressives Congress (APC) will definitely win the Governorship and the Kogi West Senatorial elections.
Meanwhile, at the time of filing this report, in Kogi Central it was observed that as early as 7 am voters were already on queue to vote at Ogaminana in Adavi local government council also at Okene in Okene Local Government Council.
In some areas in Okene, officials of INEC arrived the polling center at about 8am and commenced accreditation of voters without any problem.
Similar peaceful conduct was recorded in Ogori/Magogo, Ajaokuta and Okehi local government councils as well as Lokoja, the state capital.
However, there were cases of gunshots to scare voters and snatch ballot boxes in some polling units within the Lokoja Metropolis and Anyigba in Dekina Local Government Area in the Eastern Senatorial District of the state and some other communities across the state as at the time of this report.
