Ahead of the Yuletide season, South East leaders, on Thursday pleaded with President Muhammad Buhari to declare State of Emergency and deploy contractors to repair inter state roads in the region.
The leaders, including serving and former Governors, traditional as well as religious leaders, also bemoaned the slow pace of work on the Akanu Ibiam airport, Enugu, adding that contrary to earlier promise that the airport will be ready for use in November, indication on ground does show that it will be ready

The meeting which is currently ongoing, is also being used to draw the attention of the government to several challenges facing the region, including insecurity, poor state of federal roads.
Chairman of the South East Governors Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, who presented the region’s requests to the President, said unless something urgent nd drastic was done, it might disrupt the usual socio- economic activities that takes place in the region during this season.
Umahi pleaded with the President to “ approve a special fund for the rehabilitation nd reconstruction of the Enugu airport”
