Determined to foster multi-and interdisciplinary collaborations between basic and clinical scientists, the Nigeria Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), will be hosting the first ever Alexander von Humboldt Kolleg- an International Conference.
The idea of the conference scheduled for the 16th – 19th October 2019 in Lagos is to bring together scientists from Germany and Nigeria interested in basic, applied and translational research.
Stella Smith, director of Research (NIMR) and the convener of the international conference says the conference seeks to bridge the gap between basic and translational research, with the aim of providing knowledge exchange opportunities, generating future collaborative networks under the concept of translational research to solve problems.
According to Smith, the conference will foster an environment of communication and cooperation between basic and clinical scientists, in order to encourage and foster multi-and interdisciplinary collaborations”.
Babatunde Salako, director-general, Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) who is the chief host in a statement made available to BusinessDay stated that the theme of the conference is “From Basic Sciences to Translational Research: The Journey so far in Nigeria”
Among dignitaries expected at the three- day International Conference include Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos state governor, as special guest of honour, Stefan Traumann Consular – General, Federal Republic of Germany, Akin Abayomi, Lagos State Commissioner for Health,
Also expected at the Humboldt Kolleg conference include over one hundred (100) participants amongst whom are highly respected Humboldtians in various academic fields, junior researchers and other researchers.
The Humboldt-Kolleg is regional and expert conferences by and for Humboldtians sponsored by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation aims to strengthen regional and professional networking between its alumni and spark junior researchers’ interest in Alexander von Humboldt Foundation programmes and in Germany as a research location.
