Oyo State government says it is set to shut illegal private primary schools. The government said on Monday that a taskforce would be set up in earnest to address the menace.
Nureni Adeniran, executive chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), who stated this during an inspection of schools in the state capital, said that the government without further delay would constitute a task force for this purpose.
According to him, the task force would close down all mushroom private schools endangering quality in the education sector.
Adeniran, however, charged parents and guardians to enrol their children and wards in public schools, noting that the free education policy by Governor Seyi Makinde was already yielding positive results in schools in the 2019 academic session.
“Looking at the influx of new intakes in public schools, it is apparent that the free-education policy is yielding good fruits in the state.
