The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC now has the legal backing to conduct direct primaries in Bayelsa on Wednesday, ahead of the November 16, governorship election in the state.
This is as a High Court sitting in Yenagoa, Tuesday set aside an interim order stopping the APC from conducting its governorship primaries in Bayelsa using direct method.
Lanre Issa-Onilu, APC National Publicity Secretary, Tuesday night said in a statement that with the court decision, the party will now proceed with the direct mode of primary in line with the written request of the Bayelsa State chapter and majority of the stakeholders.
“This is in compliance with the decision of the APC National Executive Committee (NEC), which grants state chapters and majority of party leaders in a state the right to decide on the mode of primary they wish to adopt.The primary will now hold Wednesday, 4 September, 2019”, he added.
